Does schema markup help my brand show up in AI answers?
Not on its own. Google says no special AI markup or new schema is needed to appear in its AI features, and its structured data guidance is about labelling what readers can already see. Use schema to describe your pages accurately, make sure it matches the visible text, and validate it, but put your effort into clear, crawlable content first.
Free to read, no signup. Nova checks the markup on your key pages and flags any that don't match.
What Google says about structured data and AI
Straight from Google's documentation. The other engines have not published equivalent guidance.
No special AI markup needed
For AI Overviews and AI Mode, Google says there are no extra technical requirements and no new AI-specific files, markup or schema. Pages must be indexed and eligible for a snippet.
AI features and your websiteMarkup must match what readers see
Google's introduction to structured data says markup should describe content visible to users, and that you should not mark up information readers can't see, even if it is accurate.
Intro to structured dataValidate it, then keep checking
Google points to the Rich Results Test while building, and to Search Console reports after launch, because template changes can break markup later. Structured data written with AI help should be checked too.
Using generative AI content on your siteFive steps to check your structured data
Do it by hand with these steps, or hand the whole thing to Nova.
List your key pages
Pick the pages that matter most: home, product, pricing, about and your best answers. Note the page type each one is.
Nova: lists your key pages and the type each should be marked up as.
See what markup exists
View the page source or use a validator to find the JSON-LD on each page, and note the types and properties used.
Nova: reads the markup on each page and lists what it states.
Compare it with the visible page
Check every marked-up fact against the text a reader sees. Remove markup for anything not on the page.
Nova: flags markup that doesn't match the visible text.
Fix and validate
Correct mismatches, add missing basics such as your organisation details, and run each page through a validator.
Nova: drafts the corrected markup for your approval.
Recheck after changes
Templates and plugins can break markup quietly. Re-check key pages after releases and review Search Console reports.
Nova: re-checks your key pages on a schedule.
Short on time? Nova, your AI brand visibility expert, runs this Maneuver on your brand and tracks the result.
Take it to NovaEvery page, its markup and the fix
| Page | Markup found | Matches visible text? | Fix |
|---|---|---|---|
| /pricing | Offer, price [OLD PRICE] | No, page says [YOUR PRICE] | Update markup to match |
| /about | Organization | Yes | None |
| /blog/[post] | None | Not applicable | Optional: add Article markup |
Nova then re-checks the markup after each change, so mismatches don't creep back in.
